natural dye experiments

today I chose two pieces to experiment on with a simple natural dye process using dried herbs and white vinegar as a mordant. on the left, I dipped the dress in black tea dye and pressed hibiscus powder into spots for a runny tie-dye effect. on the right, I dripped sesame oil across the shirt before dipping it in a hibiscus + rose dye. then, I diluted high quality gold acrylic paint to drip a second layer of spots around the neck and bottom. after wringing the pair out and rinsing a little, I let them sun-dry in my window.

the effect is like making fairy cloth and it smells lovely.
